French, Spanish, or Latin?

 asked:

So next year, I’m going into high school and the languages they offer are French, Spanish, or Latin.
I’ve had Spanish from Kindergarten up till last year ( grade 7).
In 8th grade, we take small, three month lessons of Latin, German and either French or Japanese. We finished with Latin, and are currently in German.
I have to sign up for classes in a few weeks and my dilemma is which language is easier. I was never really good at Spanish and Latin was fun, but i wont get to French before i sign up for classes. I like German a lot, but they do not offer it.

So my dilemma is whether or not to take Latin (which I’m comfortable with) French (which is new). what do you think would easier to pick up on?

If you want to try something different, I would suggest French. But if you want to do something comfortable, go with Latin. It all depends on if you want to broaden your language knowledge.

Oh wow that’s weird that you take short lessons of that many languages in 8th grade.

Trust me, don’t do Latin. You will regret it. The only real use for it is in the Roman Catholic Church. If you aren’t Catholic, do not take it. (Sure it is used in Science but those things can be learned without learning the entire language! and yes it “helps” you learn romance languages, but a romance language is more closely related to another romance language than to Latin. so basically, instead of learning Latin to “help” you learn a romance language, you could actually learn a romance language, and then if you wanted to learn another it would be easier)

I don’t see why you don’t take Spanish. If you aren’t good at Spanish, you aren’t going to be good at French. The grammatical structures are almost the same, and Spanish is more widespread.

So… I’d say Spanish or French. Because you say French or Latin, I must say French. That which you most desire is that which you are best at. Yet, I cannot ignore how long you have taken Spanish…

I like Latin. I enjoy Latin.

More people speak French – more people to talk with.

I’d go with Latin (what better way to impress people when you’re old than to talk in Latin, or translate on the spot the exorcist movie quotes.).
