Have you tried a different software program yet. I strongly recommend Rocket Spanish or Fluenz Spanish.

Well… just as with any type of guitar playing, the best way to start off is to get a good guitar book, such as Guitar For Dummies, and work through it at your own pace. There are also a ton of great websites that contain chord structures, tabs, and some wonderful advice as far as technique goes.

Don’t be frustrated by your apparent lack of dexterity, that will come from hours and hours of practice. Just plug away.

Go between working on traditional chords and barre chords just to make it more interesting. Who knows, you may want to play rock guitar too someday.

Once you feel that the book isn’t showing you anything new you can think about taking lessons from a professional. Until you have the basics down this step will be a complete waste of money.

Oh, and prepare for some unbelievable pain on the ends of your fingers. Those calluses will come in slowly, but after practicing for a couple of hours you’ll have approximately two days of going between numbness and soreness.

Other than that, the best advice of all is… practice, practice, practice. Oh and persevere.

On a different note (I couldn’t resist) as far as your guitar is concerned you should have it checked out by a professional guitar tech. Having a twisted bridge or uneven frets will only add to your frustration as it will make it difficult to ring the strings correctly. Even Santana can’t make a badly set up guitar sound great.

Lots of practice. If you’re teaching yourself, then give it time and just enjoy the ride.

Your grading methods don’t sound half bad! I got the sense that you want all students to succeed and that you don’t want to smouther them with deadlines but rather let them work at their own pace because not everyone learns the material at the sametime. I agree with the person who wrote to you about making a different re-take test. That makes sense because what the students would end up doing is memorizing the first test rather than study the material. They do that and they will not learn anything from it.

I too will be a new teacher in about a year, except I am early childhood (prek-3). I know it’s difficult to make all the decisions we will have as new teachers and I am jealous that you have already began to think about how you will be assessing your future students!

Yes, you should be VERY worried. Don’t you understand, child, that you have cursed yourself FOREVER?!! No school would ever accept someone who has been such a miserable loser. No company would ever hire someone who has been such a failure. And, absolutely, any man out there of any worth whatsoever would rather fall into a pit of steamy hot cow manure than consider marrying such a terrible woman as you. The government is already marking you down for forced sterilization so that you won’t breed and pass on your inferior genes. Candles have been lit for your foul soul all the way to Peru. You might as well hang it up and get a job right now scrubbing floors in slaughterhouses, you pathetic wretch. (That’s called facetious humor).

Da nada, nina. You make too much of this. And, besides, both of my children graduated from U.T. Austin and the students there are all as human and flawed and normal and acceptable as you are, every last one of them. Take a summer course and make it up. Take an on-line course or self-study. Just get back on that horse. You’re going to need that language under your belt, so get cracking. Best of luck.

you have to use a different test for the re-test, or some will cheat.
if the re-test is the same as the 1st one, then people will come on the 1st exam date only to get the exam papers, do it at home without time limit and copy what they did the 2nd exam date

plus, you should put a limit to how much point you can get back that way
either limit to 2, 5 or 10 points the number of points you can get back or limit the max grade you can get if you take the 2nd exam…

the idea is to give a reason to your students to come on the 1st exam and do their best… And still allow those who did good to get better grades if they want to. A good thing that i’ve seen in my student life was a re-test that couldn’t remove points from the 1st grade. only get more points : an average of both grades or the 1st grade alone, depending on what suits the student better.

People make mistakes. participate in several extracurricular activities, do a lot of volunteer work, and raise your GPA by doing well next year, and I don’t think they’ll hold it against you to much. after all, colleges aren’t looking for the perfect scholar. they want someone who does well in school AND is active in other things.
