how long would it take me to learn to speak spanish?

Rosie.x.posie asked:

I have alot of mexican and spanish friends, so sometimes it can get annoying when i loose the flow of the conversation when they’re speaking spanish. just through listening to them, i know some basic phrases, but it would be amazing if i could speak/understand it alot better.

This summer, i am going to mexico for a while… how long would it take me to improve enough to understand and speak better?

i dont really have time for lessons, unless you can recomend cds or books :)

much love :)

whats the best way to learn a new language with out forgetting previous languages?

John G asked:

how can i learn italian with out forgetting spanish? it’s hard for me to practice spanish because in school and in work i have to speak english…

its just hard to keep my mind refreshed with spanish when i speak english most of the time….

have spanish friends but, i spend a lot of time working and in school so…the majority of the words that come out of my mouth are in english….

any suggestions on how i can maintain/improve spanish while learning italian?

don’t recommend listening to those stupid cd lessons in the car, those are crap…….

also, are there any complications with learning more than one language at once? i mean, is there any proof or something that it would make it more difficult

if anything i think it would only help….especially if you study more than one latin language at once….since many words are similar and stuff…..

Is it possible to learn spanish by watching spanish television programs?

mike9626 asked:

I can speak some basic spanish and I find that if I watch a show or commercial on the spanish channel, I can make out a little of it even though they’re speaking very fast. Can someone learn to speak Spanish well by watching spanish TV everyday in addition to learning out of a book? I find that the books focus almost exclusively on vocabulary and grammar, but nobody learns to speak their native language that way. Children don’t learn to speak by a bunch of grammar lessons, they learn by listening, and imitating what they hear. It seems to me that if you watched and listened to people speaking spanish on TV, over time, just like children, you would pick up a lot of it naturally?
